Company location doesn't matter — what matters is whether EU/EEA consumers use the service. A UK-only business selling only to UK customers is not covered by the EAA (different UK rules apply instead).
WCAG 2.2 AA Quick Scan
Checks the HTML your page actually serves against a subset of WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria — missing alt text, unlabelled form fields, missing page language, heading structure and more.
Automated estimate, not a formal audit. This checks the HTML your page serves for a handful of WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria. It cannot check colour contrast, keyboard focus order, or anything injected by JavaScript after the page loads — those need a full audit (automated + manual). A clean scan here means "nothing obviously broken in what we CAN check", not "fully WCAG 2.2 AA compliant".
What we check
- EAA scope: whether you provide any of 6 covered service types to EU/EEA consumers — e-commerce, banking/financial services, transport ticketing, telecoms, audio-visual media/streaming, or e-books. Company location does not matter; where your consumers are does.
- Microenterprise exemption: fewer than 10 staff AND under €2 million annual turnover exempts you from the requirements (though not from being able to justify the exemption if challenged).
- Deadline: 28 June 2025 for services launched after that date (already in force), or 28 June 2030 for services already live before it.
- WCAG 2.2 AA Quick Scan: checks the HTML your page actually serves for a subset of success criteria — missing alt text, unlabelled form fields, missing page language, and heading structure.
- The scan explicitly cannot check colour contrast, keyboard focus order, or anything injected by JavaScript after the page loads — a clean result means “nothing obviously broken in what we CAN check”, not full WCAG 2.2 AA compliance.

What is the European Accessibility Act (EAA)?
EU Directive 2019/882, in force for new services since 28 June 2025 (existing services have until 28 June 2030). It requires accessibility for specific service categories: e-commerce, banking, transport ticketing, telecoms, audio-visual media and e-books, plus certain hardware products.
What is the microenterprise exemption?
Businesses with fewer than 10 staff AND under €2 million annual turnover or balance sheet total are exempt from the EAA's accessibility requirements, for both products and services — though many still publish a short accessibility statement voluntarily.
