Likeliest causes, ranked

What we check

  • Whether the GA4 event and the Google Ads conversion action are genuinely the same user action — the single most common root cause when they are not.
  • Consent Mode v2 modelled conversions, offline/call-imported conversions, and view-through conversions — three things Google Ads counts that GA4 structurally cannot see.
  • Conversion window length versus GA4’s session-based lookback, auto-tagging (gclid) status, cross-domain tracking configuration, and whether Enhanced Conversions is enabled.
  • Ranks the likeliest cause(s) for YOUR specific direction of mismatch — Ads higher than GA4 and Ads lower than GA4 point to different, non-overlapping causes.

Frequently asked questions

Why do GA4 and Google Ads conversion counts never quite match?

They measure differently by design — different attribution windows, different definitions of a conversion, Consent Mode modelling in Ads that GA4 doesn't do, and view-through or offline conversions that only Ads can see. A small gap is normal; this tool helps explain a LARGE or unexpected one.

Which number should I trust?

Neither is automatically 'right' — they answer different questions. Google Ads tells you what to credit your ad spend with; GA4 tells you what actually happened on your site. Use Google Ads for bidding decisions and GA4 for understanding user behaviour.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser; the numbers you enter are never sent to a server or stored.
