What this tool does

  • Converts a plain list of terms into Google Ads negative-keyword syntax — phrase "kw", exact [kw] or broad kw.
  • Removes duplicates and can lowercase everything, so the pasted-in list matches Google’s own formatting exactly.
  • Does not tell you WHICH terms to add — for that, run the Search Terms Waste Finder on your actual account data first.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Negative Keyword Formatter do?

It takes a plain list of terms and formats each one as a phrase negative (in quotes) and an exact negative (in square brackets), ready to paste into Google Ads or Microsoft Advertising negative keyword lists.

Why do I need to format negative keywords?

Google Ads and Microsoft Advertising require specific syntax for phrase and exact match negatives; formatting them manually is tedious and error-prone, so this tool does it automatically in bulk.

Is my list of negative keywords kept private?

Yes. The formatting happens entirely client-side in your browser and no data is transmitted to or stored on any server.

Who is this tool aimed at?

It is useful for any PPC advertiser or agency that needs to quickly build or clean up negative keyword lists for search campaigns.
